  1. An 80s LP by Johnny Griffin, a later set recorded a few years after his return to the US following a lengthy period spent in urotlitatiternworlnisttinhumugest.xyzinfo set's fairly straight ahead, and a great one too – recorded with a youthful and soulful rhythm combo that features Mulgrew Miller on piano, Curtis Lundy on bass, and Kenny Washington on drums – all supporting Griffin with warm round tones that work.

  3. A heck of a soul jazz treasure from the 60s – and one of the hardest-hitting jazz albums ever issued by the Atlantic Records label! The vibe here is almost more Prestige Records overall – with very gutbuckety work from Johnny Griffin on tenor and Matthew Gee on trombone – on gritty tunes that snap along beautifully, and have Geen hitting some of the best tones he'd ever record.
  4. Johnny Griffin's sextet record, on which the present quartet was made a sextet by adding Pepper Adams and Donald Byrd and which was recorded at the same session, is also highly recommended. And yes, Naum Gabor's 'The Tulip', that graces Way out's cover, is still one of Rotterdam's main artery 'Coolsingel' special charms for me/5(8).

  8. Jun 15,  · referencing The Swingers Get The Blues Too, LP, I've been looking for some info about this album and it appears to be released in USA in Among many, see "Neal Umphred's Collectible Jazz Albums Guide "/5(13).
  9. A smoking live set from the Butterfield Blues Band – and like all the group's work, as much of a jazz and soul album as a blues one! Butterfield drew his inspiration from the Chicago bluesmen, it's true – but his style also has plenty of echoes of New Orleans soul, Memphis R&B, and other strands of American work – in a mode that's quite similar to some of the changes that were going on.
